Directional selection occurs when individuals with traits on one side of the mean in their population survive better or reproduce more than those on the other. In other words, more individuals acquire specific character value other than the mean character value.
Stabilizing selection occurs when individuals with average phenotypes survive whereas the extreme individuals from both the ends are eliminated. In disruptive selection, the organisms of both the extreme phenotypes are selected whereas individuals with average phenotype are eliminated.
